Coffee and Stories with Hartley Miller-Ordorica & Paul Baran
The 3rd edition of Coffee and Stories will be about love, poetry and beer! I can’t wait to talk to my wonderful guests!!!
Hartley Miller-Ordorica is a scholar, teacher, and linguist, with a focus on French and medieval literatures. Her work includes the study of love poetry in Old French and Old Occitan, the language of the troubadours, as well as the connections between texts written in English, French, and Latin during the 12th and 13th centuries. She has taught French in both institutional and private settings for over 15 years. She has also worked as a French-English translator in academia and in the humanitarian context for Francophone refugees arriving in the United States. Hartley is the wife of the Ambassador of Mexico to Romania, H.E. Guillermo Ordorica, and lives in Bucharest.
Born in Los Angeles to a Polish mother and Romanian father, I came to Romania as an intern in the winter of 1998. After my initial six-month internship I was fascinated by Romania’s potential and with the opportunities for my professional pursuits. I fell in love and married my wife, Raluca, and become a father to my boys Miles and Louis. Currently, I am the Consultant for the Technology and Innovation Priority of the Romanian-American Foundation, contributing to the strategic planning and coordination
of programs in this field. I also followed my longtime passion for brewing and am currently crafting beer under the brand Anagram.
Previously, through IREX, I managed the Bill & Melinda Gates funded Biblionet program aimed at providing Romanians with free public access internet through their public libraries as well as inspiring widespread institutional reform in the public library sphere. As a result of the widespread impact of the Biblionet Romania program, I was named the Digital Champion of Romania at the European Commission. I have consulted on various US and European funded public administration
reform programs and written for Vivid magazine.
I enjoy photography, surfing, developing beer recipes, exchanging food recipes while sharing a bottle of fine red wine, and in my spare time traveling with family.
